Quality of Life
(words and music by James Gordon)
Is
anyone really winning, when it seems what the game’s about
Is more and more for those with money and even less for those without?
Our poverty is the expensive kind, very hard on the psyche --
Makes you stupid, then makes you blind to the way things truly might be
If we retrieve the shards of our souls from the places they’ve been
scattered
Then rebuild our world in a wiser way as though people really mattered!
Oh,
don’t you know it’s time that we take a closer look
At the priorities we’re supporting with our taxes and our belief.
Our burden of absurdities leaves us badly in need of relief!
It’s widely agreed reform’s overdue – what’s needed now is movement.
As to what to do, there are more than a few avenues of improvement.
What
would it be like if we could move on
Out of the context we’ve been stuck in for so long?
If
we could catch the breeze and sail beyond
The limitations we’ve allowed to be imposed on our souls.
If we could breathe free, if we could loose the bonds
That hold us back from seeking our heartfelt goals!
Quality of life is not a peripheral matter.
It’s the pivotal issue – the rest is just chatter!
The good news is it’s improvable and it’s not conditional
On armaments or tax hikes or the stuff in shopping malls.
Nutrition that gives mind and body a lift
Can be grown in revitalized soil, and fuel from the excess biomass
Serves us better than big oil.
If the truth be known, true medicine is the Creator’s gift –
Not the predatory system the power elite gouges the public with.
The
list of ongoing abuses goes on and on and on –
All night we’ve heard the excuses; now it’s time to greet the dawn!
What
would life be like if we could move on
Out of the construct we’ve been stuck in for so long?
If we could catch the breeze and sail beyond
The limitations we’ve allowed to be imposed on our souls.
If we could breathe free, if we could cut through the bonds
That keep us from seeking our heartfelt goals!
